Day 15: Rome

And we are off to Rome, what some might say is the climax of a perfect trip! I will be honest - we were feeling a little intimidated about Rome. We kept hearing that you need to prepare for it to be busy and chaotic and overwhelming, and kept reading warnings about pickpockets and how hard is to cross the road. Maybe because our expectations were not super high, we were totally blown away by Rome! We fell deeply in love with the city so quickly! So many gorgeous buildings, interesting people, stunning art and important historical sites all packed together. It is truly magnificent. We arrived in Rome with enough time to have lunch and a quick pop into the basilica near our hotel and then meet up for our tour of the Borghese gallery. Even for art novices like us, we could sense the importance and beauty and grace of the works of art in this gallery.

Donald offered a little walk to the Spanish steps and Trevi fountain, so of course we had to tag along. This area was so crowded before dinner, but was quite a bit quieter when we came back after dark the next night. The Trevi fountain had been one of the sights we were most excited about, and it did not disappoint! It is so hard to believe that all of this gorgeous art just exists out on the streets in Italy! We all broke off to find a place for dinner, and David and I found a little place near our hotel for a low-key but delicious meal. We headed back to our hotel early in preparation for our tour of ancient Rome tomorrow!
