ATHENS

We returned to Athens for one final hurrah before it was time to say goodbye to this wonderful country we had fallen in love with and our great new friends.

Day 13: Athens

We met back up with Fanny from our first tour in Greece for a walk through the National Archeological Museum in Athens. What a great museum! It has artifacts from all different regions and time periods in Greece, and it was a perfect way to review everything we had learned about on our trip. The tour ended in the museum so that we could spend as much time as we wanted there. David and I headed out for lunch and a final glimpse of the Acropolis. We also returned to the shop where we had our food tasting to pick up some honeys and balsamic vinegars to share with family members back home.

The tours always end with such a nice final treat, and this was no exception. David W. had made reservations for us to eat in a modern Greek restaurant where we shared a number of unique and creative dishes that were absolutely delicious. We spent the evening talking about our wonderful trip, dreaming about future travel plans, and just genuinely enjoying the wonderful company of the friends we had made on this tour. It is always a bittersweet celebration - we are happy to celebrate the culmination of a wonderful experience and a bit wistful about returning home the next day. David and I had a 3:00 am departure, so we said our goodbyes after dinner, and headed to our room for one final glimpse of the lighted Acropolis on the hill outside our window.

We had a long layover in Zurich on our way home, so we checked our bags through and hopped a train into the city for a bit of a walk around and breakfast. It was a bit shocking to be in the rainy, gray city after two solid weeks of sun.

Our trip in all was absolutely wonderful, and we wouldn't have changed a thing. We think often of Greece, and it has become one of the best trips we have ever taken. We know that we will definitely be back to this beautiful country one day! And as always, we are dreaming about what our next RS tour might be. Spain? The Adriatic? Scandinavia? There are too many great choices and too little time. We will just have to wait and see!
